Recreation Program 2009

Eligibility: Primarily children in grades 1 through 5 (grade entering Fall 2009). Players do not have to live within the Bridlemile Elementary School boundary (there are no geographical restrictions). For Kindergarten aged players please see the Kick and Chase section of our web site.

Teams: Teams are usually formed based on grade and gender. The age divisions for our players are for the 2009/2010 school year:

1st grade – U-7: usually born on or after August 1, 2002
2nd grade – U-8: usually born on or after August 1, 2001
3rd grade – U-9: usually born on or after August 1, 2000
4th grade – U-10: usually born on or after August 1, 1999
5th grade – U-11: usually born on or after August 1, 1998

A player may choose to play with his/her age group rather than grade (if different). Girls may play on boys' teams by parental request. Please note that BSC attempts to keep teams together from year-to-year and to honor requests, but we will make necessary changes to fairly accommodate the maximum number of players. Changes in teams are sometimes necessary due to the different game format (# of players on the field) for each grade. Team coaches normally notify players of their team assignments in August.

Uniforms: All 1st through 5th grade players will wear a club uniform consisting of a gold Nike jersey, black Nike shorts and black Nike socks. Our relationship with Nike and Tursi’s Soccer Store allows us to offer this uniform package to each player for $27. Uniforms can be purchased at Tursi’s Soccer Supply, 3150 SW 87th Ave. (503.297.2271) located across the street from the West Slope Post Office. You can continue to use the old style yellow jersey (not the t-shirt) if you have one.

All players MUST wear socks to cover mandatory shin guards at each game. In addition, players must have cleated soccer shoes (plastic cleats only, no football cleats allowed.) Soccer shoe exchanges will be held at Hamilton Park shortly before school starts in the fall – where you can donate, exchange (free) or buy ($5) used cleats.

Practices/locations: Practices start in late August or early September and are usually Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday at 4:00pm or 5:30pm . Teams play eight or nine Saturday (occasionally Sunday) games the season. The season runs from early September to mid-November. Teams also have the option of playing in the Rose City Exchange, Nathan Thomas Tournament, or other events.

Most teams practice at Hamilton Park, Albert Kelly Park or Pendleton Park.

Volunteers: Make sure to complete the Volunteer information during registration. BSC is a volunteer organization that functions only with the hard work of many people. We expect that parents will help during their child’s soccer “career”. You can find descriptions of the various volunteer opportunities by clicking here: Volunteer Descriptions.  You can register online for a volunteer position by clicking here.

You can opt out of volunteering by paying an additional $25.00 fee. Please indicate so on your registration form.

Registration for 2010 Fall recreational soccer will be available by May 1. More information will be posted in April.
